Community Participation

Supported by enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, Council's community participation activities provide frail aged, younger people with a disability and their carers, with a range of opportunities for social interaction and respite. Lunch clubs have a variety of activities including guest speakers, bus trips, entertainers, crafts and games. Activities are accompanied by a lunch and staying for both activity and lunch is optional. Transport is available, if needed, for most activities.

Tuesday Lunch Club

Every Tuesday 10 am to 1.30 pm at Westbourne Park Community Clubrooms, 390 Goodwood Road, Cumberland Park. Activities include gentle physical exercises, speakers, outings etc. A meal is included. Transport can be provided for those in need, pick ups commence at 9.30 am.

Cost:$12 lunch and activity. $6 return transport if required.  Bus trips $40 (including lunch).

Friday Lunch Club

Every Friday 10 am to 1.30 pm at Blackwood Over 50's Club, 4 Young Street, Blackwood. Activities include gentle physical exercises, guest speakers, outings etc. A meal at various local venues is included. Transport can be provided for those in need, pick ups commence at 9.30 am.

Cost:$12 lunch and activity.  $6 return transport if required.  Bus trips $40 (including lunch).

Mitcham Community Connections

Keeping up social contact is important to health and well being. For those experiencing difficulty with getting out and about and risk becoming isolated, information and extra assistance is now available. Liaison with one of the many community groups (clubs, churches. etc) in the area can help locate a social or recreational activity suited to a person's interests or can help to keep up an activity. Where possible or necessary volunteer support for attendance and transport can be arranged.

Cost:$5 each way within Mitcham council area.  $8 each way outside Mitcham.

Thursday Mahjong Group

Every Thursday 1 pm to 3.30 pm at the Mitcham Community Centre Room 2, 242 Belair Road, Lower Mitcham.

Cost:$2.

Don Juan
(Dinner's On Now, Join Us At Noon)

For older men who live in the City of Mitcham. With its focus on eating out, sharing jokes and the camaraderie of "secret men's business", Don Juan is an alternative to the usual "men's shed" groups. Don Juan meet on the Fourth Wednesday of every month at the Mitcham Community Centre car park before boarding bus to nominated destination.

Cost: $11 for bus and pay for own meal and drinks.
