Flinders Precinct Parking Review

Flinders Precinct Proposed Parking Controls MapAs a result of the Darlington Upgrade Project, Flinders Medical Centre upgrades and ongoing parking demand for the university and hospitals, regular observations of traffic and parking, along Flinders Drive and in the suburbs of Bedford Park and part of Bellevue Heights have been undertaken since November 2015.

On 29 August 2016 Mitcham Council initiated consultation with the community on potential additional parking controls in Bedford Park, Bellevue Heights and along Flinders Drive, Bedford Park.

This consultation considered a number of parking control changes to reduce all day parking, traffic queue lengths and improve parking turnover and accessibility. After considering the consultation feedback, at its meeting dated 14 February 2017 Council supported the implementation of the following parking controls throughout the areas of Bedford Park South, Bedford Park North, Bellevue Heights and within Flinders Drive.

Flinders Drive Proposed Parking Controls

Flinders DriveThe proposed parking controls to be implemented in Flinders Drive consist of No Stopping 3 pm to 6 pm on the western side when travelling north towards the South Road intersection. The purpose of this parking control is to reduce traffic queues and improve traffic flow during afternoon peak periods, between 3 pm - 6 pm approaching the traffic signals at South Road. Please find below a ‘Flinders Drive - Proposed Parking Controls’ plan showing the existing parking controls and proposed parking controls. The plan below shows the extent of parking controls to be implemented on western side of Flinders Drive. 

 


 

Bedford Park South Proposed Parking Controls

Bedford Park SouthCouncil resolved not to introduce any new timed parking controls in Bedford Park South streets. Only mandatory “No Stopping Anytime” yellow line controls are being introduced in Bedford Park South.

The introduction of these yellow lines will improve road safety by maintaining visibility at junctions, access along streets and provide adequate turning space at road ends.

The plan “Bedford Park South – Mandatory Line Marking” shows the extent of where yellow lines are to be implemented in Bedford Park South.


 

Bedford Park North Proposed Parking Controls

Council resolved to implement “2 Hour parking restrictions 9 am - 5 pm Monday to Friday” on both sides of Burbank Avenue. Mandatory “No Stopping Anytime” yellow line controls are also being introduced in Bedford Park north.

The introduction of these yellow lines will improve road safety by maintaining visibility at junctions, access along streets and provide adequate turning space at road ends. The plans below “Bedford Park north – Mandatory Line Marking” and “Burbank Avenue- Parking Controls” show the extent of where parking controls to be implemented in Bedford Park north.

Bellevue Heights Proposed Parking Controls

Council resolved to implement “2 Hour timed parking controls 9 am - 5 pm Monday-Friday” on the northern side of Deepdene Avenue (odd side) between Donnybrook Road intersection to the fork on Deepdene Avenue, both sides of Donnybrook Road (southern section) and eastern side of Bellevue Drive between property boundary of no. 13 and 15 to intersection of Ridgehaven Drive and all other existing parking controls to remain unchanged.

Mandatory “No Stopping Anytime” yellow line controls are also being introduced in Bellevue Heights. The introduction of these yellow lines will improve road safety by maintaining visibility at junctions, access along streets and provide adequate turning space at road ends.

Council will review parking in Sherwood Avenue, Yurilla Drive, Glenwood Drive and Ridgehaven Drive and if necessary undertake consultation with local residents, following 12 months from the implementation parking controls in the above mentioned streets. Implementation of New Parking Controls

Implementation of these parking controls are scheduled to be complete by end of April 2017. Some temporary parking controls may be necessary during the implementation process to ensure that the works can be undertaken swiftly and have minimal impact on residents.
