Community Transport

Community Bus

The City of Mitcham has two Community Buses, each seating 20 passengers, for people who are otherwise transport disadvantaged.

Both buses have a low step and one has wheelchair access.

Weekly door to door shopping services to Blackwood, Mitcham and Castle Plaza Shopping Centres are provided.

There are also regular monthly trips to Westfield Marion and the Central Market for people living on the plains.

Our volunteer bus drivers are accredited and possess a good understanding of the needs of older passengers.

Regular monthly services to Mitcham and Blackwood Libraries are provided, enabling people to personally choose their books.

People soon discover that travelling on the Community Bus is an outing in itself and enjoy meeting fellow passengers.

Personal Transport

Volunteer drivers contribute their time to take people who are HACC eligible to medical or once off appointments, to visit a spouse or relative in hospital or to local shopping centres. Assistance is subject to the availability of a volunteer. Because of the huge demand for this service, the more notice given, the more chance there is of allocating a volunteer. At least three working days notice is appreciated. Regular volunteer support (eg shopping) may require longer notice to organise.
