The City of Mitcham is required by the Local Government Act to develop a Strategic Plan through consultation with the community by identifying the issues that Council needs to consider over the next four years.

Council adopted 'Tomorrow's Mitcham Today' the City of Mitcham's Strategic Plan 2008 - 2012 on 27 May 2008 following an extensive consultation process 'It's your future help shape it' which commenced in 2007.

It is a plan which reflects both the vision of the community and the obligations facing Council in the coming years.

The Strategic Plan sets out a series of goals, objectives and strategies to better facilitate the achievement of Council's long term vision. It is a means of ensuring day to day activities are consistently focused on the issues of most importance for Council and the community, while ensuring that sustainability is a guiding principle of the plan.

The Plan focuses on sustainability to ensure financial, environmental and social responsibilities are maintained. Council has also retained the existing long term Vision 2030, Mission and Values developed with the community less than four years ago as part of the previous Strategic Plan.

The community has had opportunities to provide input to the development of the plan through: focus groups, online surveys and feedback forms. Community feedback has been combined with the issues and strategies identified by Council's Strategic Directions Papers (consulted on in 2007) to culminate in the development of the Strategic Plan.

The Council's Annual Business Plan and Budget contains specific programs, activities and services that will be undertaken to implement the range of strategies in the Strategic Plan. Council consults with the community on the Annual Business Plan and Budget in around April of each year.
