Review of Representation
Council is undertaking a review of its system of representation during 2012/2013, as required by the schedule issued by the Minister for State/Local Government Relations.
A Representation Options Paper was endorsed by Council on 28 August 2012. Issues that were considered included:
- the principal member to be either a mayor or a chairperson
- wards vs no wards
- area and/or ward councillors
- ward boundaries
- optimum number of councillors
Submissions were received from the community during the first round of consultation in 2012. Council is now ready to embark on the second round of consultation based on its preferred option with regard to Council's structure and composition. Submissions are invited from the public, to be received by 22 May 2013. Persons making a submission should also indicate whether they wish to address Council on this matter.
