Sturt River Linear Park

The Sturt River Linear Park aims to create a continuous public open space link from the Patawalonga Basin in Glenelg North to Frank Smith Park in Coromandel Valley. The Cities of Mitcham and Onkaparinga have been jointly funding the progressive development of the Sturt River Lineal Park for many years. The Sturt River Linear Park is a key component of Adelaide’s Metropolitan Open Space System providing a strategic link in the open space network from the Hills to the Coast.

Sturt River Linear Trail

The planned lineal park program will provide a continuous walking and cycling trail from the Coromandel Valley, through Bellevue Heights to South Road where it will connect to existing trails in City of Marion. 

Sections are open on the Onkaparinga Council side of Main Road in Coromandel Valley that feature rest areas and links the Frank Smith Park. This section was opened in 2010. The sealed path to Horner’s Bridge links to the a network of natural surface trails in the Sturt Gorge Recreation Park, Craigburn Farm Visit www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks

The project have been jointly funded by the two Councils, the State Department of Planning and the Federal Department for Regional Australia through the RLCIP grants. Council has secure further funding this financial year 2017/18 to complete sections of Stage 3 of the project.

Sturt River Linear Trail and Deck

Stage 3 works are scheduled for this financial year 2017/18  which includes a three metre wide trail along the Sturt River from the Coromandel Valley Institute to join with the current end of Stage 2 works at Vawser Court. Stage 3 also includes two new bridges across Sturt River, environmental improvements (woody weed removal), landscaping, seating and trail signage.
