Community Land in Colonel Light Gardens

Council Review of Parks and Reserves in Colonel Light Gardens

The suburb of Colonel Light Gardens is home to a number of council-owned parks and reserves, each of which is subject to a ‘Community Land Management Plan’ to guide future use and development.

An August 2012 resolution of Council endorsed the commencement of a 3-step review process for matters relating to community land in Colonel Light Gardens. Step 1 of this process is well underway and involves the following parks and reserves:

  • Hillview Reserve
  • Mortlock Park
  • Pembroke Place Reserve
  • Reade Park
  • Rochester Avenue Reserve

Community consultation for Step 1 was carried out between February and April 2013. More than 600 written and verbal submissions were received during the consultation period, which included a public hearing held on 16 April 2013. These written and verbal submissions have furnished Council with a better understanding of the community’s needs and wants in relation to these parks and reserves.

A number of reports have since been prepared to progress the review of community land in Colonel Light Gardens. Outcomes of the review to date include:

  • Refined Master Concept Plan for Mortlock Park (Report to Council 10 September 2013);
  • Revised Community Land Management Plan for Mortlock Park (Report to Council 11 March 2014);
  • Review of dog management controls at Mortlock Park (Report to Council 22 July 2014);
  • Safety audit of baseball operations at Mortlock Park (Undertaken during the 2014/15 summer baseball season);
  • Delivery of stage 1 of the refined Master Concept Plan for Mortlock Park, which was part funded by a $100,000 Stimulus Grant from the State Government (Opening Ceremony held on 8 April 2015);
