Council Services on Catastrophic and Extreme Fire Risk Days

Council services will be restricted in the Mitcham Council’s high fire risk area during a declared fire danger rating of Catastrophic or Extreme Fire Danger Warning for the Mount Lofty Ranges District.

As a community leader and responsible employer the City of Mitcham is responding to the South Australian Country Fire Service fire danger rating to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers.

In the event of a Catastrophic and Extreme Fire Danger Warning Council services will be restricted in the designated “high Fire Risk Area” of Council.

Services that will be affected are:

Blackwood Library Services

Blackwood Library and Toy Library will be closed. Services will continue to be provided at Mitcham Library.

Blackwood Community Centre and Blackwood Toy Library

The Blackwood Community Centre will be closed

Waste Collection on an Extreme Fire Risk Day

The collection of domestic waste (blue lid bin), green organic bin (green lid) and the recyclables bin (yellow lid) may occur on an Extreme Fire Risk Day. Council will continually monitor the conditions to ensure the safety of our community and waste truck operators. This may result in changes to waste collection for example the time your waste is usually collected may change. It is important that you place your bins out for collection by 6am and leave your bins out until collected.

Waste Collection on a Catastrophic Fire Risk Day

The collection of domestic waste (blue lid bin), green organic bin (green lid) and the recyclables bin (yellow lid) will not occur on a Catastrophic Fire Risk Day. Residents should leave their bins out until collected as services will be re-scheduled as soon as appropriate. If there are a number of Catastrophic fire danger rating days forecast, or running one after the other, Council will assess the lowest risk time to collect waste.

When will my Waste be Collected?

There is also the potential for bin collection services in the days following an Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Day to be affected as Council work towards restoring the normal bin collection schedule. Residents should leave their bins out until collected. Where necessary Council will operate the waste and recycling trucks on weekends until the bins in all areas have been collected.

Lynton Green Organics Drop-Off Facility

The Lynton Green Organics Drop-Off Facility will be closed. The facility will also be closed on days when the expected temperature is 37 degrees Celsius or above.

All the above services will continue to operate on days of Extreme and Catastrophic Fire Danger Warnings in the designated "Safer Work Area" of Council.
