Southern Adelaide - SA Works
The Southern Adelaide South Australia Works (SA Works) labour market program is managed by the City of Onkaparinga on behalf of the Cities of Holdfast Bay, Marion and Mitcham.
The Southern Adelaide Employment and Skills Formation Network is one of 17 South Australian regions (13 rural and four metropolitan) funded through the State Government Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST).
SA Works relates to the employment targets in South Australia's Strategic Plan, the workforce participation objectives of the state Economic Development Board, the skill priorities of the state Training and Skills Commission and regionally aligns projects to targeted growth sectors and major projects identified by the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board. It is a community-based program aimed at providing local people with the education and training, personal support and opportunities required for them to gain employment, remain in the employment longer or progress to employment. It provides an alternative set of entry points into employment, vocational training and job search, thereby contributing to the objective of increasing workforce participation.
Target groups for the program are unemployed and underemployed people that fall within the key disadvantaged categories such as youth (17-25 years), mature age (40+), Aboriginal people, retrenched workers, parents returning to work, people with a disability, juvenile justice clients, refugees and migrants (and their families).
SA Works also resources regional partnerships of the many state and federal employment and training programs, where local projects are delivered through two linked regional elements Regions at Work (delivering employment and training services) and Career Development Service (which includes a Skills Recognition Service).
