The Australia Day Awards Selection Committee is established under Section 44(2)(a) of the Local Government Act 1999 to select the recipients of the Australia Day Awards for:

• Citizen of the Year
• Young Citizen of the Year Award
• Community Event of the Year
• Award for Active Citizenship

There are four awards granted under the Australia Day Awards and recipients are assessed against selection criteria.
