It is a modern facility that provides companionship, support and challenges to older residents, with a focus on working with wood. Participation in the Community Shed programs is available to men and women who are local and non-Mitcham residents.

People attending can get help with their projects. Similar to 'mens sheds' but with priority to welcome women and young people as well as older men. It is a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for companionship and users are encouraged to learn and be challenged with new woodworking skills and to achieve personal goals.

There are several sessions available at the Mitcham Community Shed and most members come for the same session each week at a cost of only $3 per session at the following times:

  • Monday afternoon, 12.30pm - 3.30pm
  • Wednesday morning, 9am - 12pm
  • Thursday morning, 9am - 12pm and 12.30pm-3.30pm

Numbers are limited to 16 workers at any session, so new members need to contact the facilitator to discuss the best session available. For more information contact the shed facilitator Norman George on 8372 8265 or ngeorge@mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au.
