A range of rooms and halls are available to hire across the City of Mitcham.

Blackwood Community Centre
4 Young Street, Blackwood

Centrally located next to the Blackwood Green Playground and Reserve (near Coles Supermarket), Blackwood Community Centre has two large function rooms for hire. 

Hall A (120 capacity) is carpeted, includes a stage, audio-visuals and screen, fully equipped kitchen with servery, a piano and 2 x pool tables. Request booking.

Hall B (90 capacity) has a stunning parquetry floor and a fully equipped kitchen. Request booking.

The entire centre is fully air-conditioned with reception area, accessible toilets and dedicated car parking. Trestle tables, chairs and crockery for up to 100 people is included in the hire costs.

Cumberland Park Community Centre

Cumberland Park Community Centre_Collage_April 2017If you need a large space to hold a class, concert or event, the Cumberland Park Centre is perfect. Purpose built in 1972, the centre has capacity in the main hall for up to 150 people. Smaller rooms are also available.

Cumberland Park is fully air-conditioned and has 40 car parks on site. Other facilities include a fridge, pie warmer, stage, lectern and tuned piano.  

Just in front of the Cumberland Park Community Centre, the Westbourne Park Memorial Hall has a large wooden floor, stage, toilets and is air-conditioned. Perfect for a large or small exercise class rather than a child’s party as there are no kitchen facilities on site.

Hawthorn Community Centre 
5 Frimley Grove, Hawthorn

The Hawthorn Community Centre is a large built facility located in a beautiful part of Hawthorn just behind the Mitcham Library on Belair Road. It is nestled amongst shady trees next to Brownhill Creek, Meals on Wheels and ample parking serving these facilities.  

This hall can cater for groups up to 150 occupants, is air-conditioned, and has a large kitchen with a refrigerator and crockery for up to 70 guests. In addition to this it also has a stage, piano, pool tables and a PA system.

Mitcham Community Centre
Belair Road, Lower Mitcham

Formerly the Mitcham Primary School, the historic Mitcham Community Centre is located directly opposite the Civic Centre on Belair Road, next to the Mitcham train station and across the road from Mitcham Shopping Centre. The Centre now includes a range of rooms for hire that have a central kitchen with crockery for up to 100 people, air conditioned rooms and approximately 50 on site car parks.

Mitcham Cultural Village Institute Hall
103 Princes Road, Mitcham

If you are looking for a historic building set amidst paved and landscaped grounds in a historical “village” like atmosphere to impress your guests then hold your next event at the Mitcham Cultural Village. The Cultural Village consists of a number of facilities including the Community Centre, Heritage Centre and Community Woodworking Shed. It is also home to Gallery One, a dynamic and colourful arts facility that offers many community art programmes.

The Institute Hall is equipped with a large modern kitchen with a servery, oven, pie warmer, refrigerator and crockery for up to 100; as well as a tuned piano, stage, balcony, disabled access and PA system.

Richmond Road Hall
Corner Richmond Road and Goodwood Road, Westbourne Park

This medium size hall is carpeted and has a separate kitchen and toilet area. The hall could be used for a variety of purposes including a meeting group, for a band or for dance rehearsals. Occupancy approximately 50.

Penang Hall
45a Penang Avenue, Colonel Light Gardens

Cute little Penang Hall is perfect for your next child’s birthday party or family function. Located just in front of Hillview Reserve Playground  and right next to the Colonel Light West Tennis Club, Penang Hall is perfect for your next child’s birthday party of family function it is equipped with a adequate kitchen and small fridge. Occupancy approximately 30.

Bookings for Parks, Gardens and Reserves

Council reserves/parks are available for public use. Exclusive use or booking of a structure (shelter/gazebo) or area cannot be granted. However, depending on the nature of the request a Special Activity Application form may be required. There are two categories for events Community and Non-Community. A Special Activity Application form will need to be completed if you are:

  • Erecting any structures eg marquees, stage, tents etc
  • Catering for a large gathering of people
  • Procuring a Liquor Licence due to the sale or supply of alcohol
  • Providing amusement rides or animals (community events only)
  • Using electricity (community events only) or generators (depending on reserve)
  • Holding a wedding ceremony
  • Holding a fair/fete
  • Providing sound amplification equipment, entertainment, eg bands, music etc (community events only)
  • Using open flames or pyrotechnics (community events only)
  • Filming on Council Land this requires a Filming Application
  • Expecting more than 50 people to attend

Please Note: For Non-Community events Council does not allow the erection of tents/marquees/umbrellas, amusements eg jumpy castles, on reserves/parks that use pegs or stakes due to potential risk of damaging underground irrigation systems. Sandbags, concrete blocks or other methods can be used in some instances.
