How we monitor and manage traffic to keep our community safe

The City of Mitcham uses traffic management standards to keep our community safe.

We’re responsible for local roads in the council area and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport is responsible for all other major roads (such as Belair Road, Cross Road, etc). You can view State Government maintained roads on the Location SA Map Viewer.

To improve safety on our road network, we also investigate and prioritise areas that need traffic calming.

Make a request or report a traffic issue:

Report a traffic issue

Request road sign maintenance

Request a new road sign, line marking or parking controls

To report road hazards and traffic signal faults, give the Department for Infrastructure and Transport a call on 1800 018 313.

Bus stops

To improve access and inclusion, we’re currently upgrading most bus stops so that they’re compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.

These upgrades include installing tactile ground surface indicators and levelling bus stops to allow for accessible wheelchair circulation space. We’re also upgrading some existing bus shelters so that they also have wheelchair seating space.

If you have any questions about these works, bus stop locations, or bus stop signage, get in touch with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport directly.

How will you know if works are planned?

If you’re directly affected by any works, we’ll send you a letter with information about when and where the works are happening, and who you can get in touch with if you have questions.

You’ll get this letter just before the work starts. If you believe there’s work happening in your area that impacts you and haven’t received a letter, you can call us on 1300 133 466.

How do we keep the community safe?

We do our best to limit construction work between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday. While we always strive to minimise the impact that roadworks has on the community, sometimes we may need to:

  • Close the road during the roadworks
  • Limit access to properties for short periods of time
  • Use noisy equipment and machines

If construction is happening on your street, it’s important to remember that this is a work site.  Take care, and listen to construction crews.

Concerned about speed or crashes in your area?

If you’re concerned about people speeding, hooning around or doing burnouts in your area, give the South Australian Police a call on 8207 4700 or go online and make a traffic watch report.

If you have a traffic issue you can let us know by reporting a traffic issue
