The Council has been elected by the community to represent the interests of Mitcham's 68,000 residents. They’re responsible for delivering hundreds of services and facilities that contribute to building strong and vibrant communities, improve the community’s quality of life and enhance their experiences.

Who the council is

Our Council is the local government body responsible for the City of Mitcham. The Council comprises of a Mayor and 12 Councillors to represent six wards including Boorman, Babbage, Overton, Gault, The Park and Craigburn Ward.

Elected by the community, the Council is the decision-making body that sets the strategic direction and policy of the municipality. It delivers the four-year Council Plan, which sets out what the Council will achieve during its four-year term to further the community vision; and the Annual Plan and Budget, which describes the Council’s key objectives and activities for each 12-month period.

What do Council members do?

They  represent the interests of the community and are responsible for the workings of the Council, allocation of the budget and the services we deliver. Council Members vote on what action will be taken with regard to issues brought before the Full Council.

How Council works

Council Members are assisted by the administration that works under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer. Council staff provide advice, implement the decisions of Council, and perform the daily works necessary to keep the Council operating.
