At some point, we all have the problem of getting rid of things that are too big for regular kerbside bin collection. When this happens, the City of Mitcham hard waste collection service is here to rescue you.

Do you have large items that don’t fit in your kerbside bins? Every household in the City of Mitcham gets one free, pre-booked hard waste collection service every financial year.

How to sort your hard waste

A maximum of two cubic metres will be collected from each household. To calculate cubic metres, multiply length x width x height. For example: 2m x 1m x 1m = 2 cubic metres.

Mattress and ensemble bases must be booked separately for recycling. Book your mattress or ensemble collection here.
Please don't put items out that we don't accept. If these are placed with your hard waste we will not collect them. To find out how to dispose of these items visit whichbin.sa.gov.au.

When to put your waste out

Your hard waste can be placed on the kerbside the day before your collection. Hard waste will be collected after 6:00am on your collection day. You’ll be asked to remove your waste from the kerbside if it’s there earlier than this.
East Waste no longer sends out stickers to identify your hard waste items, but instead informs the City of Mitcham of all approved bookings.
Make sure your hard waste is safely maintained on the kerbside until it’s collected (even if it is moved by other people).
If you live in the Higher Fire Risk Area and your collection day coincides with an Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger rating day, your collection will be postponed until the next appropriate day.
It’s important to remember that illegal dumping is an offence, and you may be issued an expiation notice under the Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act if you put items out for collection too early.
