Open space areas play an important role in the lifestyle and wellbeing of our community as well as the positive impact they have on the look and feel of our City. We work hard to keep our parks, ovals, playgrounds, trails, BMX tracks and skate parks in good condition for everyone to enjoy. racks, and skate parks, ensuring they are in optimal condition for the enjoyment of all. The City of Mitcham's greatest asset is its 232 natural bushland, landscaped parks, gardens, playgrounds and linear creek line reserves where families can relax, enjoy nature, kick a ball and have a BBQ. Dedicated dog parks are also available to exercise your dog off the leash in a safe environment under effective control. The total area of open space managed by Council exceeds 945 hectares.

Council has over 27 sports facilities, including tennis and netball courts, ovals, playing fields, outdoor courts, bowls, croquet greens and clubrooms. Friends and families can enjoy any of Council’s 65 playgrounds, with many also featuring picnic tables and benches as well as barbecues which are available for use free of charge.

The City of Mitcham has approximately 40 kilometres of off-road trail for cycling and bushwalking. Four trail zones across the district provide a range of walking and mountain bike riding challenges and areas to explore. There is a variety of terrain, which includes some steeper gullies, quarry areas and stunning views of the ocean and surrounding hills.
