Clean up from storm continues
Toggle dismiss alert

Our crews are continuing to work to clean up damage from the storm in November.

Property damage

If you have experienced damage to your property, we believe it is in your best interests to notify your own insurer first. If your insurer believes Council to be at fault, they can work on your behalf to seek cost recovery which can include any excess payable, if successful. Council is a member of the Local Government Association Mutual Liability Scheme (the Scheme). The Scheme provides Council with civil liability protection, which does operate differently to your insurance policy. Fault must be proven on Council’s part for a claim to be successful.

If you or your insurer wish to proceed with submitting a claim against Council, it will need to be in writing, providing the following information:

  • The reasons why you consider Council is at fault and responsible for the damage caused
  • Nature of the incident
  • Location
  • Images
  • Witnesses
  • Quotes of repairs
  • Previous notification to Council, ie request for service eg condition of tree to insurance@mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au

Waste collection

Waste collection will continue as normal. Many streets have tree branches on the verges waiting to be collected. If you are able to safely, please place your bins in your driveway away from fallen trees. To help our waste truck drivers safely collect your bins, please consider parking your car off the road. We understand that many roads are still closed due to fallen power lines and trees. Once your street is open we will collect all missed bins. If we haven’t been able to collect bins from a street, we'll let you know via social media and our website. If you are able to please leave your bin out.

If your green bin hasn't been collected, please let East Waste know by reporting a missed bin collection at: Missed Bin Report - East Waste

If your blue bin hasn’t been collected, please let us know by reporting a missed bin collection at: Missed Bin Report - Blue bin

The verge and parking area along Garnet Avenue, between Adey Road and Coromandel Parade, in Blackwood will be used as a temporary green waste storage.
