If you own or lease a heritage-listed property or live in a historic area within the City of Mitcham, you may be eligible for funding to help restore and conserve your property's heritage features.
Apply for a heritage subsidy
The Mitcham Heritage Subsidy Scheme helps protect and preserve our local heritage by providing financial assistance for eligible conservation and restoration works.
Funding is available for projects including:
- Restoration and conservation works on heritage-listed buildings.
- Restoration of front fences within the Colonel Light Gardens State Heritage Area.
- Pruning of a large tree on a property recognised as a Local or State Heritage Place.
You can also apply for eligible works completed within the last 12 months.
How much funding is available?
Eligible applicants can receive:
- Up to 25% of eligible project costs.
- A maximum subsidy of $5,000 within any three-year period for each property.

Who can apply?
You may be eligible if you own or lease a property within the City of Mitcham that is one of the following:
- State Heritage Place
- Local Heritage Place
- Property within the Colonel Light Gardens State Heritage Area
- Nominated Representative Building
- Property within a Historic Area Overlay
Properties owned by local councils or government departments are not eligible for funding.
How to apply
Applications are assessed in line with the Mitcham Heritage Subsidy Policy and are subject to Council approval and available annual funding.
To apply:
- Complete the online application through Grant Toolbox.
- Read the Applicant User Guide before starting your application.
- Submit your application with all required supporting information.
