Meet the Australia Day Awards Selection Committee
The Australia Day Awards Selection Committee is established under Section 44(2)(a) of the Local Government Act 1999 to select the recipients of the Australia Day Awards for:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year Award
- Community Event of the Year
- Award for Active Citizenship
There are four awards granted under the Australia Day Awards and recipients are assessed against selection criteria.

When they meet
The Australia Day Awards Selection Committee meets annually in December, with the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday 16 December 2025 commencing at 6:30pm.

The Mayor and up to five Council Members, a previous Citizen of the Year Award winner and the Manager, Community Connection sit on our Australia Day Awards Selection Committee.
