Bocce court ready to roll
City of Mitcham’s first bocce court has been installed at Woodlake Reserve in Craigburn Farm, paving the way for community connection.
Funded by the City of Mitcham, the court features a levelled, gravel surface and will be bordered by native plantings.
Woodlake Reserve Action Group Secretary Terry Quinn researched and designed the concept after a community consultation at the reserve two years ago.
Terry visited similar courts around Adelaide including the pétanque complex in Stirling as part of her research.
“We’re really happy with the result – it’s fabulous,” she said. “People are using it already and we’re planning a bocce festival in spring. We encourage locals to bring their boules sets and come and have a go.”
Councillor Karen Hockley, who has advocated for the project, says the court is already the scene of much friendly competition.
“This is a wonderful community facility that’s going to bring people together and help address the loneliness pandemic, providing a catalyst for many new friendships.”
