Community changeroom facility now open at Hawthorndene Oval
The Coromandel Ramblers Cricket Club has welcomed a new multi-use community changeroom facility at Hawthorndene Oval.
The $1.8 million project was funded by the Australian Government in partnership with City of Mitcham, South Australian Government, Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund and Coromandel Valley Ramblers Cricket Club.
City of Mitcham Mayor Dr Heather Holmes-Ross said it was wonderful to see the new changeroom facility officially open, ready for the community to enjoy.
“Hawthorndene Oval is an important place for local sport and the wider community and these new facilities will make a real difference to the people who use the oval each week,” she said. “The new changerooms, accessible public toilets and improved amenities provide a welcoming and inclusive facility that can support local sporting clubs, players, families and visitors for many years to come.”
Coromandel Ramblers Cricket Club Matthew Smith, a former president, said the facility was welcomed by the club, celebrating its 100th year.
“Two weeks ago, we had over 100 juniors and all their parents down here having a great time, playing cricket on the oval together and that’s what it’s all about,” he said. “Our club really appreciates this – it’s going to be fantastic for us.”
The facility has two changerooms, an umpires’ changeroom, accessible public toilets, showers, storage, a small kitchenette, deck and verandah. The building is available for community meetings and hire. Public toilets are open to the public between 7.30am and 7.30pm each day.
