Creek upgrades planned for Hawthorn, Torrens Park
Two sections of Upper Brownhill Creek will be upgraded and rehabilitated as part of the Brown Hill Keswick Creek (BHKC) Stormwater Project.
Upgrades will occur at Cross Road to Hampton Street, Hawthorn, including a new bridge at Hampton Street, and Betty Long Gardens, Torrens Park. The cobble base of Brownhill Creek will be retained and replenished, channel capacity increased and new trees, shrubs and groundcovers will be planted.
Significant Kauri trees will be retained at Betty Long Gardens and the revegetation program will use native species and focus on improving the biodiversity, habitat value and amenity of the watercourse and reserve.
The project is funded by the Cities of Adelaide, Burnside, Mitcham, Unley and West Torrens, the Stormwater Management Authority and the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund and Urban Rivers and Catchments Program.
Construction will commence in early 2026. Contact Program Manager Brett Shuttleworth on 0401 574 416 or email brett.shuttleworth@bhkcstormwater.com.au or visit www.bhkcstormwater.com.au for more information.
