Fruit Share on track to double its harvest

Fruit Share Adelaide is on track to harvest 20,000kg of fruit in 2025, doubling its first year of production.

The charity is dedicated to harvesting excess fruit to redistribute to those in need. This year, Fruit Share has harvested a total of 458kg of fruit from eight backyards in our Council area.

Mitcham has 26 volunteers registered, 39 residents have registered their fruit trees to be part of the initiative, and eight food relief groups have registered to receive fruit. The top five fruits harvested in Mitcham are pomegranates (131kg), oranges (124kg), lemons (102kg), mandarins (32kg) and limes (25kg).

Across Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills, the group has harvested 31,455kg of fruit since their first harvest in 2024, spanning 207 backyard harvests and 39 farm harvests. Group founder Brett Dunstone said the group was now harvesting across 22 different council areas in Adelaide.

The group has hosted fruit tree pruning and growing workshops and supported a range of
events including the Blackwood Environment Centre open day last month. “Thank you to our sensational volunteers, supporters and fruit donors who make our harvests possible,” Brett said.
