Garden waste drop-off days now free
From September, City of Mitcham residents can dispose of excess garden organic waste free of charge at the Lynton Green Organics Drop-off Facility.
Following a review of the service, Council has decided to replace the previous mix of free and paid drop-off days with a full free service, along with a new online booking system to make visits easier, reduce waiting times and improve safety.
Located on Beagle Terrace, Lynton, the facility accepts garden organic waste from City of Mitcham residents who maintain their own properties.
Opening hours:
- March to August: 9am to 3pm
- September to February: 8am to 2pm
The service is not available to commercial operators or vehicles such as trucks and other larger commercial vehicles.
From September, all Council-operated drop-off days will be free for City of Mitcham residents and require an online booking.
The highest number of free drop-off days have been scheduled during the bushfire preparation season to help residents manage excess garden waste. The remaining six free days will be spread throughout the rest of the year.
Council will review the service after 12 months to assess how it is working and identify any improvements.
Regular paid open day will continue on 29 August.
