City of Mitcham’s Pasadena Community Centre is set to receive $200,000 as part of the State Government’s Urban Greening Strategy.
The funding, part of Green Adelaide’s Cooler, Greener, Wilder grants program, will be used to enhance landscaping at the Adelaide Terrace site.
It will support Council’s further investment of $891,000 towards developing a car park that is safe and accessible, smart stormwater management and greening of the area to create natural habitats that incorporate indigenous flora, water sensitive elements, sustainable retention and use of water as well as interpretive signage.
A major upgrade of the Pasadena Community Centre is currently underway. Construction is due to be completed in August this year with the car park, stormwater and greening to be completed by early 2026.
Green Adelaide Board Chair Professor Chris Daniels said the Urban Greening Strategy included a 30% tree canopy target aligned with the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan.
“By joining forces, through Adelaide’s new Urban Greening Strategy, our capital city now has its first metro-wide plan to expand tree canopy, cool the city, and enhance biodiversity, as well as measures to track ongoing progress to create a more resilient and liveable city for all.”
