Help shape South Australia's future flood planning

The South Australian Government is seeking community feedback on proposed updates to flood hazard mapping and planning rules across the state.

The draft State-Wide Flood Hazard Code Amendment aims to improve how flood risks are identified and managed by using updated flood studies, contemporary modelling and more consistent mapping of areas affected by riverine and surface water flooding.

The proposed changes are designed to help guide future development, support emergency management planning and provide greater certainty for property owners, developers and communities.

Key changes include:

  • more consistent and contemporary flood hazard mapping across South Australia
  • improved planning policies to support safer development outcomes
  • a streamlined process for updating flood hazard mapping as new information becomes available

The draft Code Amendment focuses on flood hazards associated with creeks, rivers and other waterways, as well as flooding caused by surface water during significant rainfall events.

Consultation is open until Thursday 13 August 2026.
