Marilyn welcomes Home Library Service
Lifelong reader Marilyn is never without a book thanks to City of Mitcham’s Home Library Service.
The Colonel Light Gardens resident found she was no longer able to visit a library or friends who used to share books with her when she stopped driving four years ago.
“A friend down the road suggested I join the Mitcham Memorial Library and told me they have a service which can supply me with books each month,” Marilyn says. “For anyone like me who is unable to visit a library this service is absolutely wonderful, it really is.”
The Home Library Service offers free delivery of library material to people living in the City of Mitcham who have difficulty visiting their local library due to ill health, frailty or disability.
Once a month the service selects items tailored to each clients’ interests and staff deliver them to residents at their home, retirement villages or aged care facilities.
Items available for loan include books (including large print), magazines, audiobooks (CDs and MP3s), DVDs, music CDs and puzzles.
“The library staff have enough knowledge of my likes and dislikes to choose books for me. I can also request specific titles,” Marilyn says. “They will extend the loans on a book if it isn’t finished by the end of the month, which is something I really appreciate.”
