New battery drop-off collection points now open

Four new collection points for products containing embedded batteries, including vapes, are now open.

Embedded batteries, found in common rechargeable appliances, can spark fires when compacted with other materials in collection trucks and waste facilities, putting truck drivers, facility workers and households at risk.

Four permanent drop-off locations are now open to accept embedded battery products, as well as loose batteries, for free.

  • Adelaide Waste and Recycling Centre, North Plympton
  • Campbelltown Works Depot
  • Heathfield Resource Recovery Centre
  • NAWMA Resource Recovery Centre, Edinburgh North

Embedded battery items include Bluetooth speakers and headphones, phones and laptops, e-scooters, e-bikes and hoverboards, flashing, remote controlled and ride-on toys, electronic toothbrushes and shavers, cordless and robotic vacuum cleaners and wearable devices.

The expanded service is made possible through the State Government with support from Green Industries SA.

Loose batteries (AA, AAA, 9V and lithium) can also be taken to City of Mitcham Civic Centre, Aldi Supermarkets, Woolworths and Foodland. Remember to add tape to either end of the battery terminals, as ‘dead’ batteries still have some charge.
