Repair, re-use, recycle at Blackwood

Reduce waste by repairing instead of replacing at the Adelaide Repair Café at Tiwu Kumangka, Blackwood.

Held on the second Saturday of the month, the Repair Café is part of a global movement dedicated to fixing broken household items and reducing waste.

Residents are encouraged to book an hourly session for one item and come along to help with the repair and learn.

Items could include electronic appliances, clothing or textile repairs and participants are encouraged to bring along any spare parts, items that need replacing or cotton or materials needed for the repair.

In 2025, the Repair Café successfully repaired 115 items, diverting approximately 172.5kg of waste from landfill.

A team of four repairers has grown to 10 along with up to eight volunteers per session, covering textiles, electronics or electrical, mechanical, furniture, jewellery and general repairs.

There are three hourly sessions held between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. The next Repair Café will be held on Saturday 14 March.

The day coincides with Energy Helper sessions, run by volunteers available to speak with residents about energy saving, solar or bill saving ideas.
