Upgrades pave the way for safer streets
The Winston Avenue and Caulfield Avenue intersection upgrade is the latest in a series of traffic safety improvements to be rolled out in Cumberland Park, Daw Park and Colonel Light Gardens (west) in coming months.
Funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, the intersection features a raised platform to help reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety and new kerb and drainage infrastructure to improve stormwater management.
Upgraded pram ramps and footpaths support safer and more accessible pedestrian movement and illuminated Give Way signs have been installed to improve driver awareness.
The project is part of Local Area Traffic Management Plan for Cumberland Park, Daw Park and Colonel Light Gardens (west) which aims to improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
As part of the project, a three-hour parking zone surrounding the Repat Hospital has been introduced along with truck access management on Ormond Road.
Other measures to be introduced in coming months include:
- A trial reduction of the speed limit to 40km/h in Cumberland Park, Daw Park and Colonel Light Gardens west
- A new pedestrian refuge on Winston Avenue and Richmond Avenue roundabout
- Safety and traffic calming measures near schools on Little Street and Eaton Street
- An upgrade of the Avenue Road and Eaton Street intersection
- A new pedestrian refuge on Winston Avenue and Richmond Avenue roundabout to improve safety in a high-foot-traffic area
- A 3-hour parking zone surrounding the Repat Hospital precinct to ease congestion (already introduced)
