In the City of Mitcham you have three options for disposing of organic material:
- Set up a compost bin or worm farm.
- Utilise the green organics kerbside collection service.
- Take garden waste to Lynton Green Organics Drop-off Facility.
Mitcham residents can take excess organic material such as tree and shrub prunings (branches no larger than 200mm (8 inches) in diameter), grass cuttings and clippings to the Lynton Green Organics Drop-off Facility, Beagle Terrace at Lynton. Soil will not be accepted. This service is not available for commercial operators.
Open Days 2019/2020
The Lynton Green Organics Drop-off Facility is open from 9am to 3pm on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of each month (excluding public holidays) as shown on the calendar below. Fees apply and proof of residency within the City of Mitcham is required.
The Facility is located within the Higher Fire Risk Area and will be closed where Extreme and Catastrophic fire danger ratings are issued by the South Australian Country Fire Service. The facility will also be closed on days when the expected temperature is 37 degrees celsius or above.
The Lynton Dump Facility will however be closed over the Christmas Break from 20 December 2019 reopening on the 4 January 2020.

Free Green Waste Days 2019/2020
Council will provide 12 free green waste days to assist residents prepare their properties for each upcoming Fire Danger Season. These include 10 free days throughout October, November and December to assist residents prepare for each upcoming Fire Danger Season and two free days in January and February to assist residents with maintaining their properties during the season. The free days will be advertised after the CFS have announced the bushfire season each year.
All green organic material collected is transported to a commercial composting contractor and turned into mulch. In 2017/2018 a total of 625.45 tonnes of green organic material was diverted from landfill through residents and Council using the Green Organics Drop-off Facility.
