Our By-Laws reflect community needs to ensure comfort, harmony and safety of our community. They govern such things as waste, parking, moveable signs, dog and cat management, local government land and permits.

The City of Mitcham has powers to make and enforce by-laws under the Local Government Act 1999.

By-laws must be reviewed every seven years to ensure they are relevant, meet the needs of our community and are up to date with current legislative requirements.

Council adopted the following by-laws on 9 August 2022, considered by the Legislative Review Committee, they were gazetted pursuant to section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1999 on the 25 August 2022 and became operational on 25 December 2022.

Following feedback from the Legislative Review Committee further amendments were made to the Local Government Land, Moveable Signs, Dogs and Waste Management By-Laws.

These By-Laws, including the reviewed by-laws, will expire on the 1 January 2030:
