The Autumn leaf street sweeping program is underway and focuses on streets lined with deciduous trees. We aim to blow and sweep leaves on these roads and footpaths on a fortnightly basis for a ten week period, usually between the months of April to June. Delays in sweeping may be experienced due to weather and higher leaf falls.

Information for individuals, groups and businesses who would like to use Council land for outdoor dining, mobile food vendors, events, filming, trading tables and when needing to conduct clean-ups.

If you would like your customers to dine outside on land owned by council or if you want to have a trading table display goods for the sale on the footpath you will need a permit. Mobile food vendors can also apply for a permit to trade in the City of Mitcham. if you want to use public land when required to conduct clean-ups or hold an or film on council land you can apply for a permit.

Outdoor dining permit

Outdoor dining permits allow restaurants and cafes to extend their seating area onto the footpath. This enhances the vibrancy of our streets, supports local businesses and gives customers the best experience of dining.

Holding an event on Council land?

If you want to run a food truck at an event on any of Council's open spaces including our parks and reserves, you'll need apply for a permit.

On-street mobile food van permit

Do you want to run a food or coffee truck from a street in the City of Mitcham? Before you sell food or beverages from one of our streets, you'll need to apply for a mobile food vendors permit as there is legislation governed by the State Government, but you'll also need to abide by our location rules and food safety legislation. Permits are valid for one month to a year.

Planning an event?

If you are organising a public or a private event in any of City of Mitcham’s public spaces, you may need an event permit.

To ensure public safety and maintain the beauty of our parks and gardens, event permits are necessary for both public and private events. Our by laws cover all activities that need a Council permit. The application process allows us to review your proposal, ensuring it identifies and manages all potential risks.

Do you need approval?

You’ll need an event permit if:

  • You’re organising an activity or event on Council land.
  • You planning to film.
  • You need to temporarily close a road for a street party, march, parade or other event.
  • You want to set up a temporary food stall.

Council reserves are open for community use. You can bring your picnic chairs and tables onto a reserve for personal use. However, if you are organising an event such as a wedding, birthday party or bringing equipment such as shade umbrellas or BBQs onto Council land, you will need to apply for a permit.

Filming on Council land

You need to have a permit from us to film on areas we manage.

Examples of activities needing a permit include, television shows, commercials, feature films and student film projects.

Please allow two calendar months notice of any proposed filming activities.

You need a trading table permit if you want to use the public footpath outside of Chemplus Chemist at 248 Main Road, Blackwood.

Occupy public space for construction or maintenance

If some of your construction of maintenance works will take place in public space, you must get a permit. This includes on the footpath or road.
